under rocks and pale blue sky i crave creation of my design veiled in darkness oh where do i begin?
last night’s coldplaty concert was likely one fo the best concerts i have ever been to. i have even more of an appreciation for coldplay after seeing them live. some thoughts why: 1. the music was good i’ve been a fan of coldplay’s mellow-yet-fresh alternative sound for a while. it sounds amazing in studio versions and fits on pop charts as well. live, they manage to keep their sound almost the same - but it wasn’t the same. i’ve always been able to identify a coldplay song by three things. chris martin’s vocals, the distorted/reverby guitars, and the warm/soft sounding drums. these three elements were present, but in greater quantity. the drums were louder, there was more guitar, etc. the result is a big sound that resounds with every single fan in the stadium. incredible. another thing that surprised me was how different the songs are. coldplay doesn’t really write the same song a bunch of times. each song is special, unique, and has a message. and yet, every song is so darn catchy. the songwriting skills of these guys are impeccable. they could write a song about a toothbrush and make it a hit. 2. the visuals are amazing the production/creative team of coldplay knows what’s good…

Strings
Annie Elise is a violinist and string arranger in New York City. She writes and records string parts for other artists' records, from a single violin line to a full stacked section.
She trained as a violinist and enrolled at Berklee for violin performance before focal dystonia in her left hand ended that path. She spent years producing instead. Official remixes for Old Sea Brigade and Axel Flóvent — both streaming successes — are what brought her back to the instrument, and she now arranges strings professionally.
For so long I didn't want to play my violin, because of the effect focal dystonia has on my playing. I thought it wasn't good enough.
Send a rough mix or a reference and say what the song needs. She comes back with an arrangement and recorded parts. Remote by default, so location is not a constraint.
About
Annie Elise is a musician, producer and string arranger based in New York City. She has chromesthesia, a form of synesthesia, and works as a violinist and arranger for other artists.
Annie Elise, born Annie Dickinson, is 25 and grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She lives in New York City. Her father is a music educator, and she learned GarageBand at 10, testing curriculum on his classroom iMac lab.
She has chromesthesia: sound triggers colour for her, and colour triggers sound. She describes herself as a “conductor for color.” In 2016 she self-released her debut album, Synesthesia, named for it.
In 2017 she gave a TEDxYouth@Lancaster talk, Seeing Sound: How Synesthesia Can Change Our Thinking. It has been viewed more than 120k+ times and has been described as the most-watched synesthesia talk in TEDx history. Read the full piece .
She enrolled at Berklee for violin performance. Halfway through her first semester she was diagnosed at Harvard Medical Center with focal dystonia in her left hand. It is effectively untreatable. She pivoted to production.
For so long I didn't want to play my violin, because of the effect focal dystonia has on my playing. I thought it wasn't good enough.
She is playing violin again. Official remixes for Old Sea Brigade and Axel Flóvent were both streaming successes, and they are what got her back on the instrument. She now works as a string arranger, with credits including David Archuleta, Vacations, Mon Rovîa, ivri, Lily Meola, Orville Peck.
Her EP magic came out in July 2026 on Boomer Hotel, the New York studio and label imprint she runs with Z. AnalogueTrash called the record “sublime electro-flavoured dream pop,” placing her alongside Purity Ring and Magdalena Bay. She is also, unexpectedly, an internet personality in China. China →
She also works in A&R at Nettwerk Music Group.
a million people know my face, but almost none of them have heard my songs. as a kid i wished on everything (birthday candles, wishing wells, 11:11, you name it!) to be a famous artist. i only got half of that wish: 'famous' and 'artist' but not 'famous artist.'
nobody tells you wishes work like that… you can get exactly what you asked for and still be standing in the middle of the room thinking: they'll notice me for who i REALLY am soon. soon. soon. i wrote make a wish because i still can't stop wishing, and i don't really want to!!!

Most of the audience that finds her through Douyin arrives on a phone, and arrives for the videos rather than the records. That gap is the thing she writes about.

EP · 2026
“levitating in a glitchy and witchy kind of way.”
magic is a five-track EP by Annie Elise, released on 10 July 2026 through Boomer Hotel, the New York studio and label imprint she runs. It runs 11 minutes and 36 seconds.
The record collects work made either side of her return to the violin — a return that followed years away from the instrument after a focal dystonia diagnosis in her left hand.
Annie on the third track:

album · 2016
Synesthesia is Annie Elise’s self-released debut album, from 2016. The title points at the chromesthesia that shapes how she writes: sound triggers colour for her, and colour triggers sound.
The following year she gave a TEDxYouth@Lancaster talk on the subject, Seeing Sound: How Synesthesia Can Change Our Thinking.
